As asthma is a wide spread problem with our youth, I felt the need to share information with everyone in regards to the signs, symptoms, and treatment of asthma in regards to sports.

This first link is the exercise and asthma webpage link:

I am also attaching a link that you may forward or print out and share with your parents/children: http://asthma.ca/corp/services/pdf/asthma_exercise_eng.pdf

What is recommended is that all coaches identify which athletes have asthma, which ones require their medication use before practice and games and what to watch for on the field.  When asthma is well controlled, then the athlete should be able to maintain a normal activity level.  If their activity level is compromised, then their asthma is not well controlled.  Coaches may wish to speak to the athlete ( depending on their age) and to the parents.

General signs and symptoms of asthma and specifically exericse induced asthma are listed on the pdf link.

As this information was provided directly from Asthma Society of Canada, they can be reached at 1-866-787-4050 where you will conected with Asthma Society's Certified Asthma Educators, or you may also email any question directly to info@asthma .
